In 1998 one of our members decided that the Guild needed to have a Quilt Retreat, this has since become the highlight of our year. The retreats were originally a three-day event – Friday to Sunday – packed with activities related to quilting. In recent years, we added optional days on Thursday, and then more recently Wednesday, for those who can make it. And in the last two years, a few members have even gone on Monday for a full week of sewing. For some, the retreat offers some much needed “me time” devoted to sewing. For others, it’s an opportunity to sew in a social setting. For all, it’s a wonderful time to get away, work on unfinished projects (or start new ones), seek help from others, and have a good time.
Our early retreats were at Massanetta Springs in Harrisonburg. When they built their new lodge, we quickly took the opportunity to use that, since it gave us the ability to have our sewing and lodging in the same building. In 2012 it became clear that we had outgrown the facility and that we would have to find a new venue. In 2013 we went to the Best Western Inn and Conference Center in Waynesboro, Virginia.
